My name is Dominique Girardini and I am an experienced integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, with a private practice based in Streatham Hill, South London.
I am a French national who has been established in London for over 30 years and I work in both French and English.
I offer one-to-one counselling and therapy for adult individuals, both on a long and short-term base.
My core model is in Psychosynthesis and since I qualified in 2000, I have continued to train in a variety of approaches which have enriched and widened my clinical practice;amongst those feature Mindfulness, body-based Traumawork and EFT (a psycho-energetic approach based on tapping of meridian points). You can read more about these various approaches in the section My Work.
I also endeavour to keep abreast of recent developments in the psychotherapeutic field including the latest teachings from neuroscience. I have completed many years of personal therapeutic enquiry and psycho-spiritual development. I have a long-established practice of meditation and am a trained Mindfulness teacher at post-graduate level, abiding by the Good Practice Guidelines of the UK Network for Mindfulness-Based Teacher Training Organisations. I also have a passion for the body in movement, am a yoga practitioner and occasional creative dancer.
I bring into my work an awareness of the holistic nature of human experience including body, feelings, mind and spirit and engage with these different facets as and when the therapeutic process requires. I believe that there is a natural movement within all of us towards wholeness and self-realisation. I see my role as a therapist to accompany, support and guide this process. Often the distress, stuckness, crises that we experience in our lives are the symptoms of disruptions in wholeness that have their origins in our childhood when we had to distort and fragment ourselves in order to adapt to our environments and survive – and they become the catalysts to our process of healing, growth and return to wholeness.
Within the holding framework of a respectful, safe and supportive therapeutic relationship, we will explore the difficulties you are experiencing in your life at present, trace them back to the past when appropriate, and, using a range of modalities, work towards healing and transformation, letting go of what needs to be released and integrating what needs to be embraced. It has been my experience that this process contributes to restoring harmony both within the personality, and between the individual and their environment, to fostering compassion, liberating creative energies as well as enhancing vitality, thus opening the way to a more fulfilling future.
Amongst the issues I work with are depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, life crises, trauma, bereavement, sexuality, search for meaning and actualization of potential.
